20-year-old sold by Man Utd scores in impressive display against league leaders

Charlie Savage has scored for Reading again in League One, as he continues to develop after leaving Manchester United in the summer.
Charlie Savage was sold to Reading during the summer amid the mass exodus of youth players Erik ten Hag wasn’t keen on.
Savage joined Zidane Iqbal, Bjorn Hardley and others in seeking pastures new in order to begin their senior career.
The 20-year-old has been impressive since the move and continued to show his talents as Reading faced Portsmouth as he scored in the first half.
The Manchester United boss could be watching on regretting the move, as it seems Savage has a higher ceiling than many initially thought.
Charlie Savage grabbed his third goal of the season against League One leaders Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon. The goal wasn’t enough to see off a comeback by the visitors as they came back to win 3-2.

The goal was a good one and at the time put Reading 2-0 ahead of Pompey. It was his second in League One, with his other goal coming in the EFL Cup.
Savage has gone from strength to strength since his summer move, which has included making his international debut for Wales.
He has also popped a few shots at United since the move, in which he criticised the training facilities at the club saying they were at a similar level to League One Reading’s.
Will Ten Hag be regretting the sale?
It is never great to see a youth player depart the club as we obviously hope they all perform and become first-team players at United.
But in this case, it seems to have been the right decision as he goes from strength to strength and looks to be thriving due to the faith shown in him by Reading.
Savage would have had to contend with players like Kobbie Mainoo and Dan Gore who are clearly higher in the pecking order despite being his junior.
United are thought to have a sell-on clause in the contract which could see potentially a big windfall should he go on to be sold for big bucks.
Despite being impressive and looking like he will become a really solid footballer in the English Football League, it is unlikely he would have broken into the first team at any point.
However, his scoring touch will be something Ten Hag will be jealous of as goal-scoring remains a prevalent issue. But in this case, the sale probably was the correct decision.
