Well, it is said that Barcelona may need to sell a major asset in 2024 to ease their financial problems.
Gavi is mentioned as one who could be offloaded, with TEAMtalk adding that a sum of £120m could be enough to sign the Spain international.
The Barcelona No.6 actually has an £866m release clause in his contract at the Camp Nou, so while £120m may sound like a lot, it would actually be something of a bargain in this context.
TEAMtalk add that Guardiola is a huge fan of Gavi, and sources believe the Spaniard would have the biggest pull of any manager in Europe for the 19-year-old if Barcelona put him on the market.
Todd Boehly has already invested millions into bringing some of the planet’s best young footballers to Stamford Bridge, and the American would be ready to act if Gavi becomes obtainable.
Manchester City must bid for Gavi
If Barcelona do find themselves having to sell Gavi, Manchester City need to take advantage.
You may argue that Guardiola has no need for another central midfielder at the Etihad Stadium, and while that is currently true – unless Kalvin Phillips departs – these opportunities do not come around often.
Gavi possesses the potential to win a Ballon d’Or one day, and has already achieved so much at the age of just 19 – he boasts 25 caps for Spain along with a La Liga title.
If Manchester City are given the chance to sign Gavi from Barcelona, they simply have to act.
